A mix of cereals and pulses optimised for the high yielding dairy goat. Should be introduced about 2 weeks before kidding, starting with just a few handfuls, and gradually building up to about 0.5kg a day by the time the kids are born. After the birth of kids, the feed should be slowly increased to about 2kg a day. A milking goat producing about 4.5 litres of milk a day will need about 2kg of mix a day. Pygmy goats thrive on routine so should be fed at the same time each day. It is advisable to feed them twice per day, splitting the mix evenly between each meal. The rest of their daily diet should be made up of good quality hay, which can be made available at all times for them to help themselves. Also suitable for fibre goats.In autumn the growth and quality of pasture and other plant matter drops off considerably so additional feed (both hay and concentrate) will certainly be needed. Any kind of feed change should be done slowly, so start by introducing concentrate feed in small quantities (0.25kg per day) and gradually build up to the levels required to maintain condition (0.5 - 1.0kg per day for a dry adult).
